Produce the best possible atmosphere for SDCC Music Lounge through sound. Create the best sound mix possible and support the audio needs of artists involved with the lounge. Ultimately, amplify the Music Lounge by providing excellent audio services.

Title: SOUND TECHNICIAN

Responsible to (Answers to): Performing Arts Coordinator

Purpose: Produce the best possible atmosphere for SDCC Music Lounge through sound reinforcement. This includes, but is not limited to, creating the best sound mix possible, creating an audio mix that aligns with a particular theme of the event, and supporting the audio needs of the artist involved with the music lounge. Ultimately, amplify the Music Lounge by providing excellent audio services.

Qualifications & Skills Required:
1. A love for music.
2. Able to work in a team setting and take directions.
3. Either has experience mixing audio successfully in the live environment OR are willing to attend training and work alongside a mentor.
4. Have good communication skills.
5. Ability to think quickly and react/trouble-shoot properly in high-stress situations.

Time required: 3 hours | 6:00pm-9:00pm

6:30pm      CALL Time

6:45pm      Sound Check

7:15pm      House Opens

7:30pm      SHOW

9:00pm      SHOW End

 

Tasks:

Pre-show
1. Set up the stage for musicians (or with musicians depending on the situation).
2. Perform a proper line check.
3. Perform proper sound check; includes gain settings, monitor mixes, proper volume settings, and the eq/mixing process.
4. Check with performing arts coordinator for schedule and any schedule changes.

During Service
1. Responsible for adjusting sound levels during the show as needed.
2. Responsible for following performing arts coordinator and artist’s direction during services. For example, boosting monitor levels.
3. Responsible for following stage and schedule cues.
4. Responsible for providing a distraction-free service as it relates to audio production.

Post-service.
1. Note any broken/faulty equipment and take it out of service if possible.
2. Clear stage of equipment as needed.

Time Required: 3 hours | 6:00pm-9:00pm

7:15pm      House Opens

7:30pm      SHOW

9:00pm      SHOW End
