Making Dallas a No-Kill city is a big job and as a volunteer-based organization, we need a lot of great volunteers to do it. As an Adoption Events Volunteer, you'll participate in some of the fun events that DPA uses to match our animals to their furever families!
Team: Adoption Events
Reports to: The Events Lead for the day’s event, as well as the Events Director, VP Admin and the Executive Director.
Works with: The Events Team and Volunteer Team regarding event logistics. Ongoing interaction with the public, venue hosts, and DPA supporters during events will also be a must.
Attending adoption events as an official representative of DPA. Venues may include (but are not limited to) dog parks, other outdoor parks, pet stores, breweries, apartment complexes, music festivals, coffee shops, and other retail establishments.
Handling dogs who are attending events as needed and maintaining control over said dogs at all times.
Speaking with members of the public regarding topics such DPA’s mission/purpose, rescue program, and adoptable pets. Training will be provided.
Assisting with sales of merchandise at events.
Participating in set-up and tear down of event site and supplies.
Transporting supplies to the event upon request.
Following other instructions from the Event Lead as needed or requested.
Participating in at least one event every 6-8 weeks in order to stay current on DPA events protocol and the organization in general, also helps develop relationships with other event volunteers.
Must be proficient with the use of email and have regular phone access.
Flexibility regarding assigned tasks and willingness to move to a different task as instructed by the Event Lead, to ensure a successful event.
Must understand and appreciate the critical importance of volunteers at events and be willing to follow through on all event attendance commitments, except in case of an emergency that is communicated to the Event Lead.
Must be at least 18 years of age, or be accompanied by a parent at all times during events.
Dallas Pets Alive! Musts:
Excellent oral and written communication skills to maintain professional level correspondence at all times
A motivational, can-do attitude to represent DPA in a positive manner to our supporters and the general public
A problem-solving mindset to handle and diffuse challenging situations in a professional manner
A love for animals and dedication to the cause of animal welfare
Time Commitment: 4-8 hours per event (varies by event).
