Help Grieving Children and Families!!

Journey of Hope Grief Support Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing group grief support to children, adolescents, and their parents or adult caregivers who have lost a loved one to death.

Our children and families come to the support groups two nights per month. Our groups meet Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday and the families will choose the night and location that bests works for them. Our Tuesday & Thursday groups are in Plano and our Wednesday group is in Frisco. Volunteer facilitators arrive at 5:30 pm where they discuss new families and go over curriculum for the evening. Our Program Director, who is a licensed therapist, creates age-appropriate curriculum based on best practices and research in the field of childhood grief. For example, one session may include reading a story to the group, and creating a craft based on it while talking about their feelings. Facilitators and other volunteers join the families for dinner at 6:30pm, and the groups run from 7:05pm - 8:10 pm. Facilitators debrief from 8:10-9pm.

We are looking for warm, caring, empathetic, and patient volunteers who are comfortable with emotional expression and sitting with those who are sharing some of their deepest pain. Facilitators may work with children ranging in age from preschool through high school, or with adults in our separate support group.

Before beginning service, volunteers will partake in a weekend training session to become group facilitators. Facilitators must pass a background check and will be vetted during the training and subsequent observation sessions to ensure they are a best fit for our program.

This is an ongoing opportunity. We are looking for volunteers who will commit to one night twice a month based on our group meeting schedules and locations. It is most helpful to always work with the same age group, at the same location so the group of children or adults you are working with can develop a rapport with you.

We do new facilitator training  two times per year so you may have to wait several months to start this opportunity. In the mean time, please be sure to check our page to see if there are any other one time event opportunities that we may need assistance with.

In order to get started with this opportunity, please send an email to Thank you for your interest!  We look forward to meeting you!
