More Details

Fostering can be a wonderful experience for you and your family.  Fostering opens up a kennel space in the shelter for us to save another animal and can provide individual attention that pets thrive on.

DAS (Dallas Animal Services) currently is focusing on two areas of rescue for our foster program.

All medical is covered by DAS, you simply provide food and a happy home.

5-8 WEEK OLD PUPPIES

These are puppies that are already weaned onto dry kibble, so do not require bottle feeding. We are looking for volunteers that would like to take 1-2 puppies home to foster at a time.

This is a fabulous opportunity where you will only need to keep the puppies 1-5 weeks (depending on age of puppy when they enter the program) because the puppies will be going to our Everyday Adoption Center in PetSmart at Coit/Campbell for adoption just 3 days after their spay/neuter surgery when they are 8 weeks old.

Volunteers will earn 2 hours per day of volunteer credit that they have a foster puppy in their home.

ADULT DOGS FOR TRANSPORT

We have opportunities to send dogs to other shelters, mainly in the NE United States, but also in other states, where they will find adoptive homes.  However, they need to be in a foster home at least 14 days before transport as a type of "quarantine" to make sure they are healthy before heading out on transport.

Volunteers will earn 2 hours per day of volunteer credit that they have a foster puppy in their home.

Foster volunteers will need to fill out our online application and attend a 3 hour orientation and interview before being approved as part of the DAS Foster Program.
