Make a difference - help a child learn to read! Become a Reading Buddy TODAY!

Why we need YOU: Currently in Dallas County, only 40% of 3rd graders read at grade level. A student who cannot read on grade level by 3rd grade is 6 times less likely to graduate by age 19 than a child who reads proficiently by that time. Readers 2 Leaders needs your help to increase the number of students reading at or above grade level by working one-on-one with struggling readers.

What is Readers 2 Leaders: Readers 2 Leaders (R2L) is a local non-profit organization serving the West Dallas area with the mission to develop and grow the reading skills of underserved Dallas children in ages 3-12 so that they succeed in school and graduate prepared to live productive lives. R2L is currently serving over 400 students per year with our Team Read Programs. Team Read is a reading intervention program for students that need additional reading support to reach grade level. We have an In-School, After-School, and Summer Programs.

What will I do as a volunteer: Reading Buddies (volunteers) are a key part of our programs and provide the essential one-on-one reading assistance to a student once a week during the R2L After-School Program. As a Reading Buddy you will help a child develop their reading skills through phonics practice, reading leveled texts, and reading high-quality literature to them. Above all, you will be a positive role model that encourages them and makes reading fun!

When and where can I volunteer: We have several Reading Buddy spots available in both our In-School and After-School programs. Opportunities are also available in June and July in our Summer Camo
